Ted Nield

Ted Nield is the editor of Geoscientist magazine.  He studied geology, obtaining his PhD in 1981 from Cardiff University before embarking on a career in the oil business.  After two years, he left to become a science journalist, at which point science (and scientists) ceased to be his subject and became his material.  He wrote mainly for New Scientist and the Independent before joining the Committee of Vice Chancellors and Principals in 1986  as spokesman for the UK university system. Returning to science in 1997, he joined the Geological Society of London and now edits their fellowship magazine. He has served as chairman of the Association of British Science Writers and has written three critically acclaimed trade books for Granta: Supercontinent (2007), Incoming! (2011) and Underlands.
