Govert Schilling

Govert Schilling is an internationally acclaimed astronomy journalist and writer. His articles appear in Dutch newspapers and magazines, but he also writes for New Scientist, Science and BBC Sky at Night Magazine, and he is a contributing editor of Sky & Telescope. He has written over 50 books (including a couple of children's books) on a wide variety of astronomical topics. Most of these were originally published in Dutch, though some have also appeared in other languages including English such as Atlas of Astronomical Discoveries (Springer, 2011), Tweeting the Universe (Faber, 2011; co-authored with Marcus Chown) and Deep Space (Black Dog & Leventhal, 2014).

The recipient of several distinguished prizes, awards and grants for his contributions to the popularization of science and technology, Schilling is frequently asked to appear on radio and television, and regularly lectures for a wide variety of audiences. He is also the owner and editor-in-chief of the popular astronomy website ‘Alles Over Sterrenkunde’.  In 2007, asteroid 10986 was named Govert in his honour by the International Astronomical Union. He lives in Amersfoort, the Netherlands.
